Detection and Diversion before addiction and apprehension 🐕 for schools

Created April 22nd, 2023

On Feb 29, 2024 my explosive (firearms) dog and I will be retiring.  My goal in retirement is to obtain a drug dog (see below for qualifications) and donate my time and both dog's time to the school districts near where I live, make myself available to other school districts outside my local area and assist the school districts in writing policy regarding the use of detection k9s in school. Detection before apprehension and diversion before addiction. Let's get kids help before they fall into the rabbit hole and feel like there no where to go.

The goal of this fundraiser is to help with the initial purchase of the drug dog, and purchase training aids for both dogs. I have already obtained multiple licenses I need to purchase, transport, and store the training aids. I'm hoping to purchase the narc dog by the end of the first quarter 2024 so I can hit the ground running upon retirement.

One of the schools near me has already had 3 overdoses since the first of the year and one overdose death. I'm constantly getting calls from schools inquiring about drug dogs, specifically one trained in marijuana & fentanyl,  but with the staffing shortages, agencies aren't able to provide this type of service. When I did conduct searches with K9 Kuva (pictured, RIP) everything was handled administratively to rather than criminally so keeping the cops on the street where they're needed is reasonable and but we're still able to assist the kids on a path to recovery.

The goal is big but impact will be bigger. Thanks for considering.

My background:

By the time I retire, I'll be a few months shy of 28 years, 25 of which will have been with largest, most populated county in WA. I worked as a narcotics detective for 11 years and worked a drug dog for 5. I am currently working an explosive/gun dog and when she retires, we'll have been partners for 7 years with more years in her! I am also an evaluator in both disciplines (and scent work) for multiple associations. I am also a trainer and mentor in the above disciplines as well as sport detection. I'm an open book and you can follow me on fb or Instagram @my2scentsk9
