Flathead Montana Deputies' Mother Diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer
First Responders
Catastrophic Loss
Montana
Created December 13th, 2020

Kathy Smith has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer. She is the mother of Flathead County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Travis Smith and Deputy Tyeler Smith. Travis served 8 years in the US Army, serving one term in Iraq, and has been with FCSO for 13 years. Tyeler joined FCSO just one year after his brother, serving the community for 12 years. Sgt. Travis Smith, Deputy Tyeler Smith, and their sister Bri love their mother greatly. Kathy has been a huge support to her sons and law enforcement. Kathy is also a grandmother to ten grandchildren and is highly loved and respected in their community.

Kathy and her family all live in the state of Montana. Kathy's husband Rick is retired from the US Postal Service, and Kathy currently works as a clerk for the Department of Motor Vehicles. Once Kathy runs out of vacation and sick leave from her job, she will no longer receive her pay, which will be financial stress, as she is an integral part of her and her husband's finances.

Kathy will be receiving her cancer care in the state of Arizona. The family will need to pay expenses for flights to Arizona, housing when in Arizona while healing from her surgery, and going through extensive chemo and radiation therapy. There will be medical and personal expenses she and her husband will need assistance with during this time to fight Stage 3 Esophageal Cancer.

Let's rally behind Kathy and her family to help alleviate any financial stressors they will endure during this time. Help show your support by considering a donation and sharing this fundraiser on all social networks!

Thank you for your generosity and taking the time to give to this law enforcement in need. If you could also take the time to share within your social media networks it would be greatly appreciated. If someone can only give a dollar and share this story it will assist this family greatly.

We have lost enough American people to Covid 19. However, we can't forget the number of Americans whose lives were cut short by Cancer. That includes my two older sisters, an older brother, and an older brother who is a Cancer survivor. This is a time to help if you can. I know many who are financially compromised by loss of life, lost of jobs and even homes on top of all else. Perhaps it's time to give a little hope if we can. Vaya Con Dios
