Dear Friends, Teammates, and Brothers,

At the request of Rick Slater, a group was formed a few months ago to explore options to assist him with legal bills concerning custody of his son. This legal battle has spanned over five years and has cost Rick nearly half a million dollars that he saved while serving the United States as a Navy Seal. Like any father, Rick wants what is best for his son, and those of us close to the situation understand that it is imperative that Rick remains involved in his son's life.

The group formed is tasked with raising money to assist Rick in having the best legal counsel available to represent his interests. The opposing side is fully entrenched, and it appears as though part of their strategy is to drain Rick’s finances to a point where Rick would not be involved in Cricket’s life, if they are successful.

Several of you know Rick through serving with him in the United States Military, as a Penn State football player, or maybe you simply feel connected to him from stories that you may have heard about him. In any case, all of us are connected to Rick as Americans who salute his heroic service to our Country by deploying on countless combat missions as a Navy Seal. We needed Rick to protect our freedoms and to serve in a way where all of us slept well at night with our families. Rick now needs us to serve him with our support, and this is the impetus for reaching out to you.

This is the private FundTheFirst page that has been established.  With regards to this page and out of respect for Rick, it is important to keep this link private and confidential unless you are forwarding to someone that you feel would have a genuine interest in contributing to this effort. As part of creating this page, a monetary goal has been established, but exceeding the goal is desired. FundTheFirst is the #1 trusted crowdfunding platform for military, first responders, their families, and anyone in need. Rick is a retired Navy Seal and currently a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Your support of Rick is needed, and our group is contacting you directly to get involved in a way that you can assist someone who sacrificed so much for all of us.  Funds for Rick are needed immediately, as there is one pending invoice from the law firm representing him. Please also note, it is reasonable to believe that this matter will not be settled soon, and so we must plan appropriately for a lengthy battle. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Family courts in America seem to be grossly biased agains fathers, especially when they are veterans and responders. Hawk and his son deserve to be together. This has been a legal travesty and is devastating the child.
