Our friend Jon McHugh is facing some challenging times. Jon went to work for a 4-12 shift in November 2023 and the night began as all others. He and one of his partners had just cleared a call when they heard another partner key up the radio with what sounded like screaming in the background. Jon and his partner raced to the other scene to assist their partners who they believed were in trouble. When Jon arrived on scene, he observed an individual exhibiting pre assault indicators and witnessed him about to attack another officer. Three of the officers on scene, including Jon felt that they had no choice but to engage the subject to secure him into handcuffs. While physically engaged with the subject, he began to injure Jon, resulting in a torn muscle in his back. Jons department ended up forwarding the case to the District Attorneys office for criminal charges against Jon although there were no complaints from the public. Jon has been forced to retain a criminal defense attorney to defend himself and his innocence. He had to pay a $5,000 retainer for the attorney and if the case should have to go to trial, he would be looking at spending $50,000 for his legal defense. On top of all of this, Jon and his wife welcomed a baby girl just three weeks after this incident and now during a time that should be filled with joy and happiness, he is worried about providing for his family. Jon is a cops cop, always the first one offering to help a coworker with a move, some handy work around their house, or even helping a cop or trooper from another agency with a case they have. He has always been there for us and I’m hoping now we can be there for him. If you aren’t able to give a monetary donation, a text or call goes just as far to show that he’s not alone.
