The officers and members of hook and ladder company 6 of the Hicksville Fire Department along with close friends are setting up this fundraiser to assist one of our own who lost not only their home but their beloved animals (1 dog and 6 cats).
On November 25th, a tragedy hit a first responders home. As the family was out the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday), the family members got phone calls saying their home was on fire. Hicksville Fire Department rushed to the scene and Captain Chris Moskos of company 8, tried to immediately gain entry suspecting that someone was home. Once announced over the radio that no one was home, they knew he had to get their beloved animals out. Matrix (the family dog-pictured below) was found and was immediately rushed to the animal hospital. Unfortunately due to the smoke inhalation, his life was lost. All 6 cats(Anna, Harley, boots, tigger, Oliver and Loki) were found but unfortunately were gone due to smoke inhalation.
The Azzue family now needs the support of their fellow first responders as well as the community for every day use items, food and clothing.
As we are in the middle of the holiday season, we understand it is a tough time for all but please share and donate anything possible. A little goes a long way!
Please know that the Azzue family reads all your posts/comments! They are overwhelmed and extremely thankful for your kind words and donations.
Updates
Thank you for ongoing support, we are settled in to our rental home. We wish everyone and their family a very happy holiday and Merry Christmas
- The Azzue FamilyWe officially moved into the house! Words cant describe the continued support the community, friends, family and our fire department family have given us.
From the Azzue Family:
We got a rental!! So we will be out of this hotel before Christmas! Life looks a lot different for us these days but we personally want to thank everyone who has donated. We understand it is hard during the Christmas season, and we thank you for all the support. We are overwhelmed with our friends, family and community support.
The Azzue family will never be able to express the gratitude for every single person who has reached out and donated to them. They wish they could thank every single person who has donated, but they are reading the kind works and prayers everyone has been leaving everyday. The next step for the azzue family is finding a rental home in hopes to get out of the hotel soon.
Thank you to everyone who has donated this far. We are a little over the halfway mark! The Azzue family is beyond grateful and overwhelmed with the outpour of love and support you all have shown them. Please know they see and read every comment, every donation.

I can only imagine the heartache you all feel losing your fur buddies. I lose one, and I'm grief-stricken. Thankfully you all are ok physically, but the loss of your fur family must be over whelming. Hopefully, one day, you all will be strong enough to start a new fur family and embrace the love of the four-legged pets which are GOD's gift.
