Our 9-year-old grandson, Joey Malcolm, Jr. Passed away tragically on Monday, June 19, 2023. He drowned in a pond while fishing.
Joey was a sweet and wonderful little boy…precocious in every way. He was a loving brother to Aiden, 16, Brody, 14, Connor, 3, and a sister Taylor 17, who he called “Sissy”. His youngest brother Connor especially loved his “JoJo” and looked up to him in every way.
Joey loved life. He was an outstanding athlete and especially loved soccer. He was the goalie, and alternate striker, and was a great team player! Joey was a jokester forever playing tricks on his family and loved every minute of it!! Joey also loved animals including birds and butterflies.
We are asking for donations to honor Joey and keep his spirit alive. A portion of the money will be donated, in Joey’s name to Wags Rescue. They are a wonderful organization that go above and beyond helping animals. We are happy to donate in honoring Joey’s love of animals.
We will be holding a “Buddy-System” Dedication very soon, donating a planted tree and an engraved bench in Joey’s name at the beautiful pond where the tragedy occurred. Our mission is to raise awareness about the importance of having a “Buddy” when engaging in recreational activities. Whether it’s fishing, biking, or anything else, we want to ensure that kids are aware of the need for someone to be there with them in case of an emergency. We will continue to update with a date and information for the “Buddy System Dedication”.
We are starting a Non-Profit Scholarship program in Joey’s name. We are calling it “Joey’s Gifts”. This will provide financial assistance to girls and boys who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in organized sports. We believe every child, just like Joey, should have the chance to experience the passion, joy, and positive development being part of a team provides.
Joey's mother, father, and extended family, especially his brothers and sister, will forever miss his contagious laugh, beautiful blue eyes, incredible smile, and magnificent and gregarious personality!! Joey will live in our hearts forever, and with your help, his Spirit will live on forever too!! Thank you in advance for your loving support in honoring Our Beautiful Boy - Joey!
Updates
We are thrilled to announce that we will be making our first donation in Joey’s honor this Sunday to Wags Rescue at their event at Horsham Farmers Market. Joey’s Mom Lisa wanted a donation to a dog rescue to be part of “Joey’s Gifts” because Joey loved animals especially dogs!!! I know Joey would love this.
We chose “Wags Rescue and Referral” because of the wonderful work they do finding dogs a forever home!
Thank you to all of our donors!
Cindy and Bill Berkelback, and family
