Imagine how you would feel if a loved one wandered off and was lost. What if that was your child, parent, sister or brother, or your grandparent? Would you want the emergency response agency to use all resources at their fingertips to help locate and bring home your loved one?
West Virginia K-9 Search and Rescue, Inc. (WVK9SAR) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, organization founded in 1988 for the purpose of providing trained and NASAR certified search dog teams and search technicians for the search of lost, missing, trapped, and incapacitated persons and evidence and body recovery. Our team responds through the State of West Virginia’s Office of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement agencies and local fire departments. Our busiest time of the year (hunting season) is here, and we anticipate more deployments.
.
WVK9SAR’s service is free and available 24/7 365 days a year and our volunteers have been able to provide prompt service and assistance in providing closure for families.
In addition to our search and rescue services, we educate the children of WV on what to do when they get lost, using the Hug A Tree and Survive program. We offer free introductory search and rescue classes for our law enforcement and emergency responding agencies. And our team members are certified in Project Lifesaver; a program providing electronic tracking devices for dementia, Alzheimer’s, and autistic individuals.
With the growth of our team, so are the money requirements for our Liability Insurance that we are required to carry and the necessary training and equipment to conduct searches. Our team does multiple fundraisers throughout the year to help offset the cost of our training and operating costs. Our yearly operating budget is $8000.00, and all money goes directly to operating costs, equipment and training!
