Created August 13th, 2024

On August 9, 2024, Smyth County Virginia Deputy Michael Fedorchuk endured an unimaginable hardship after assisting a local police department with a traffic stop.  The driver of the vehicle in that traffic stop fatally shot and killed his partner, Deputy Hunter Reedy, and the ensuing exchange of gun fire left Deputy Fedorchuk with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.  Deputy Fedorchuk underwent a successful surgery that same night and, most thankfully, will make a full recovery.

Deputy Fedorchuk is a selfless being with a pure heart.  Deputy Fedorchuk consistently demonstrates exemplary work through his unwavering commitment to community safety and his integrity in every situation.   His keen attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills enables Deputy Fedorchuk to effectively resolve conflicts and build trust with citizens.  Community members recognize Deputy Fedorchuk and his blood hound Copper as reliable figures, always acting with honesty and professionalism in the line of duty.  He always goes above and beyond in the performance of his duties.  Whether it be taking upon numerous overtime shifts or deploying his K9 partner Copper, Deputy Fedorchuk never hesitates to step up and be a benefit to those in need.

While Deputy Fedorchuk is a fine law enforcement officer, it comes second to being a devoted husband to Grace and a father of two beautiful daughters, Penelope and Palmer.  When Deputy Fedorchuk manages to find a day off, you will find him making memories with his beautiful family.  Deputy Fedorchuk shares a love of law enforcement with his brother Robert who is a Virginia State Trooper, and Deputy Fedorchuk is an incomparable uncle.  There is no denying the commitment Deputy Fedorchuk has to his family.

While the physical wounds will heal, it will be a lengthy process.  When it comes to the emotional wounds, what Deputy Fedorchuk experienced that afternoon is nothing short of devastating.  Deputy Fedorchuk is nothing short of a hero, and he needs all the support we can give.
