Please help us support Nassau County Police Medic Josh Sgro.
On May 20th 2024, Josh went to work like he had many times before, unfortunately his night did not end the same. While responding to a person stabbed, his ambulance was rear ended, resulting in him being ejected from his ambulance.
Running on adrenaline only, Josh assisted the victim and the other vehicle occupant at scene until the severity of his injuries became apparent by those around him. He was taken to the hospital as a trauma patient.
In the almost 2 years since the accident, Josh has endured constant pain as a result of the accident and neurological problems. He has required major cervical spine surgery as well as shoulder surgery. He still requires two additional surgeries to fix other injuries. As a result of the accident, he has a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and numerous other fractures and tears. He spends every day in various forms of therapy, both outpatient, and at home.
As a result he has been out of work since the day of the accident, unable to supplement his income and requiring frequent travel to specialists. Our goal is to help Josh and his wife financially as he continues to work towards his recovery in search of improving his day to day quality of life. Josh has given his life to serving others. He is an 11 year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department Emergency Ambulance Bureau, a former volunteer firefighter for 16 years with the East Rockaway Fire Department and a 4 year veteran of the United States Army, deploying in 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
