As many of you may know, in early May 2023, Ryan went in for a routine colonoscopy due to stomach pains. During the procedure, they found a mass and sent out a biopsy for testing. A few days later, Ryan received a phone call that would alter his life forever. At 22 years old, he was told he had cancer. Following up Sloan Kettering cancer center for further testing, he was diagnosed with high end stage 2 rectal cancer. Ryan has since finished his first round of chemo in September 2023. After new imaging, it has been determined by Ryan’s treatment team that he will start radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks with another round of chemo. This will more than likely result in Ryan having to stop working.
Ryan is loved by so many people and supported by many. He is a loved son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, boyfriend, best friend and co worker. Ryan was a Hicksville junior firefighter for 4 years, a member of Hicksville Rescue 938 for 4 years and an FDNY EMT for 1 year. He has always had a love for the fire department, following the footsteps of he father Lieutenant Joseph Stack of FDNY engine 225 in Brooklyn. Jessica Stack, Ryan’s mother, is a NCPD dispatcher for years, dedicating her life to the community and being the first voice people hear in their time of need. Ashley and Justin stack, Ryan’s brother and sister are also members of Hicksville Rescue 8 and Hicksville Engine 3. The Stack family has always been the family of lending hands. Since his diagnosis, Ryan has taken a medical leave from the Hicksville Fire Department and has been placed on desk duty with the FDNY. Ryan has remained positive throughout his treatment and continues to smile. We are asking for help so that Ryan will not have to financially worry while he continues to fight this fight and beat cancer!
Ryan we all love and support you so much. Your strength is truly commendable. Keep smiling and laughing. Keep fighting the good fight.
