Gina Griffin is still in Critical Care
Hello friends, family and kind folks we have yet to meet, my name is Jaime, little sister to Gina Griffin. Gina has been in critical care for 2 weeks and we are reaching out to our broadest community asking for support to help ensure Gina and her sons can stay afloat, while she fights for her life.
On March 13th, Gina was admitted into the hospital with abscesses that put her in sepsis. She was in critical condition on Tuesday and we almost lost her. Today she is still battling the sepsis in ICU and is considered in critical but stable condition. She is making baby strides to get a little better every day since. However, she also has been diagnosed with colon cancer.
Gina is a mother of two young men and widow to US Army veteran, SSG Carroll Eugene Griffin - a.k.a. Gene. When Gene was in active duty, Gina was in the position to rally community support for spouses of those deployed in Gene's unit. I'm hopeful that we can send some of that energy and love back her way now.
Since Gene's sudden passing 10 years ago, Gina and her boys (I still call them "the boys") have had a hard time getting their footing, emotionally and financially. They moved to Florida to be closer to our elderly parents. She supports herself as an independent contractor. Even with the boys’ help, she has struggled. She has no financial safety net in place.
Gina is not out of the woods yet; even then she'll still have a mountain to climb. We are cautiously optimistic that she will continue to improve and successfully fight this sepsis. However she will require hospitalization for a while longer and then visiting nurses at home to assist with her recovery. This is all so she can be strong and ready to receive chemotherapy treatments — this is her Mount Everest.
She does not live near a base. Exact medical costs for the level of the care she has had and will still need are unknown but will add up very quickly. In the short term, we want to ensure that she can cover her rent and bills while she is out of work, so she and the boys can stay in their home and ultimately have a place to care for her.
I am writing this today in hopes to rally support of friends and the military community near and wide. Gina is very special to so many of us, and her boys need her to pull through so she can see them become the great men they are destined to be.
Any amount will help. Any moneyraised here will go directly to basic living expenses and medical bills. Thank you all in advance for your time and generosity! …or as Gene would say “Shukran” (which is Thank You in Arabic).
Updates
Update: Gina was recently moved into a local rehab facility. Progress! She'll be recovering there for a few weeks to heal a bit more and build her strength back with PT and OT (I never really knew the difference between the two, but now I do). She is fired up and motivated to build her mobility and get to the next step, coming home. Thank you all again for the kind words and generous donations. The support and positive faith is helping imensely.
I will keep the updates coming.
Update on Gina: She is out of ICU and in a regular hospital room now. She's still recovering and slowly getting better day by day. She will remain in the hospital for another week while she heals more and regains her strength. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, support, texts, donations and general big waves of love. We have all felt surrounded and it is giving us and Gina strength.

I’m so sorry to hear and hope this helps. Please know your family are in my prayers, especially now during Easter. Elaine
Wishing you support and love..if anyone can beat this you can!
Gina, May the Lord give you the strength that your body needs to heal itself and then become ready for the cancer battle. I pray for your faith, may it be strong and patient, and I send love to you all. Many of the best times of my life were spent on Long Island with you Jerry, and Joseph when we were all kids and would come to New York on vacation. (Jamie, you weren't born yet.) Family may be separated by miles but hearts are always intertwined. In the Lord's name I pray, AMEN
Family roots and blood run in your veins and mine, God bless you 🙏❤️ May our Lord’s healing blessings be with you 🙏
