Created April 15th, 2024

Lieutenant Michael Hoosock of the Onondaga County (NY) Sheriff’s Office and Officer Michael Jensen of the Syracuse (NY) Police Department, were shot and killed in the line of duty on the night of Sunday, April 14th, 2024.

Lt. Hoosock was a beloved deputy, husband, father and a highly respected lifetime member (and past Deputy Chief) of the Moyer’s Corner Fire Department. He leaves behind his loving family, beautiful wife, Caitlin, and there three young children, ages 7, 5 & 3.

Officer Jensen was a member of the Syracuse  Police Department since February of 2022 and had recently been awarded “Officer of the Month” in December of 2023. A Syracuse resident, Officer Jensen leaves behind his loving parents and sister.

On behalf of the Hoosock Family, Jensen Family, Onondaga Sheriff’s Dept PBA and Syracuse Police Dept PBA, in conjunction with Law Enforcement Officers Weekend Inc., a nationally recognized nonprofit organization, an OFFICIAL online fundraiser on the FundTheFirst Platform has been created and approved by all involved parties. This is the only recognized official fundraiser for the families.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit each family.

Both these men spent their lives helping their respected communities. Now it’s time we help them!

Our original fundraising goal of $500,000 has been reached, and we can’t thank all of you enough! However, this is just the beginning! Please, continue to donate to these two families as we know the financial burden will be immense. Many of you may not be able to show your condolences any other way, and monetary donations will help the families immensely as they now travel through life with their new reality. On behalf of the families, departments and unions, thank you for your support during this difficult time.

Each hour, we come closer and closer to our overall fundraising goal. Please share the fundraiser with your family, friends and colleagues and encourage them to help the financial burden both families will be facing. Together as a community, we will lift them up and vow to never forget.

I had the honor of teaching Michael Hoosock the alto saxophone at Bishop Grimes when he was a ninth grader in '00- my first year teaching. I remember him as a smart, polite boy who was a good musician and always kind to others. He made a positive impact on me as a young teacher. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and all that knew him that will be forever affected by this tragic loss.

My name is Donald R. Lewis. My son Scott Lewis is a SPD Officer, and my niece/Goddaughter, Renee Lewis is an Onondaga County Deputy Sheriff. They were both closely affected by the tragic event on the night of April 24th, 2024! Both lost close friends, their Brothers in Blue! To honor the lives lost and help the families of SPD Officer Michael Jenson, and OCSD Lieutenant Michael Hoosock, my brother Andy Lewis and our friend John Gram, did a fundraising bike ride. The event was held on May 29th, my 72nd birthday. We rode one mile for each of my birthdays, and raised $4,227 in donations!
