On November 8, 2017 Corporal Timothy Sterrett of Forest Park Georgia started his day on duty with his chocolate milk and doughnut from Dunkin. While doing his normal patrols he answered a call of a motorcyclist in a near by neighborhood driving erratically, and without a helmet. He and his partner responded with what would soon be a life changing traffic stop. During the stop the suspect reaches to his waistband and started towards a house he didn’t live, Corporal Sterrett had to draw his service weapon and repeatedly shouted for the suspect to stop, as the suspect tried to enter the house Corporal Sterrett moved in to block him, as he did he heard a loud pop and started to fall to the ground. As he fell he returned fire on the suspect that had just shot Sterrett on the right side of his neck. Corporal Sterrett survived that day but not before dying on the operating table. Since that day Corporal Sterrett has had numerous surgeries, life long nerve damage, constant pain, and outrageous medical expenses. By the end of 2021 he was forced to retire from his life long passion of protecting the community and being an officer by the City of Forest Park. City of Forest Park does not have a medical retirement in place for wounded officer and Corporal Sterrett now has to pay for his own medical expenses that are due to serving his community of Forest Park. Most departments have an officer retirement in place that gives them life time medical insurance but not Forest Park. I have attached a link of his Police1 article done on Corporal Sterrett.
