Their story
Help Stephanie Folwell Recover From a Devastating Stroke
A Lifetime of Giving to Others. Now Stephanie Needs Our Help.
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Stephanie Folwell suffered a devastating stroke that has left her in critical condition.
Stephanie is receiving intensive medical care, surrounded by the love of her family and the countless people whose lives she has touched.
Her fiancé and partner of approximately 25 years, Roger Kilfoil Sr., a retired New York City firefighter and United States Marine Corps veteran, is standing beside her during this incredibly difficult time.
For decades, Roger and Stephanie have dedicated themselves to serving others, particularly America's military veterans, first responders, and their families.
Roger served with the FDNY's Ladder Company 131 in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and participated in rescue and recovery operations at Ground Zero following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. His commitment to helping others continued through years of humanitarian and disaster response service.
Together, Roger and Stephanie cofounded Mission Margraten Plus, a charitable organization dedicated to honoring World War II veterans, preserving their legacies, and connecting American families with Dutch families who lovingly care for the graves of America's fallen heroes.
But Stephanie's greatest contribution cannot be measured by the number of ceremonies organized, veterans honored, or families brought together. It is measured by the love,
dignity, and compassion she has given to others.
As her daughter, Gillian, describes her, Stephanie has always put others before herself. She possesses an extraordinary maternal instinct, constantly checking on those around her, making certain they are cared for, supported, and never forgotten.
She has a wonderful sense of humor, a delightful personality, and an extraordinary ability to make people feel welcome, appreciated, and loved.
Even when Stephanie did not have the financial resources to help others, she gave something equally precious: her time. She listened. She cared. She made people feel important.
Whether sitting beside a retired firefighter who had witnessed the horrors of September 11or listening to a World War II veteran recount experiences from decades earlier, Stephanie gave each person her undivided attention. She gave them an audience. She gave them relevance. She reminded them that their sacrifices mattered and that their service would never be forgotten.
Stephanie understood that many veterans, particularly those in their later years, needed more than recognition. They needed someone willing to listen, someone who genuinely cared about their experiences, and someone who would ensure their stories lived on.
Stephanie made certain they were heard, appreciated, loved, and never left behind.
Her compassion extended beyond veterans to their families, fellow first responders, and
anyone who needed encouragement, understanding, or simply a friend. She has spent much of her life helping others find comfort, dignity, and hope.
Today, Stephanie Needs That Same Compassion.
Stephanie currently has no medical insurance, and the financial challenges associated with her medical care and potential recovery are substantial. If her medical condition permits, she is expected to need extensive inpatient rehabilitation, physical therapy, and continued medical support following her intensive care treatment.
The costs of these services, particularly without medical insurance, could be overwhelming.
We are reaching out to the extended family of firefighters, law enforcement officers, military veterans, first responders, friends, neighbors, and compassionate Americans everywhere. We are asking you to help Stephanie receive the medical treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing care she may need.
Every contribution, regardless of size, will help ease the financial burden on Stephanie and her family. If you are unable to contribute financially, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your family, friends, and community. And please keep Stephanie in your thoughts and prayers.
For so many years, Stephanie has given her time, her heart, and her compassion to people who needed someone to stand beside them.
She has spent a lifetime making certain that others were never forgotten or left behind. Now, it is our turn to make certain Stephanie is not left behind.
With heartfelt gratitude,
