I was involved in a single motor vehicle fleet accident in which I sustained and suffered bilateral knee dislocations which resulted in a complete disruption of the vascular supply to the lower left leg. In addition, I suffered neurological injuries to both legs below the knees. I then underwent vascular reconstruction of the lower left leg with postoperative fasciotomies. My fasciotomy wounds subsequently became infected which later caused my lower left leg just above the left knee to be amputated.  Currently, my right leg and knee are in an immobilizer brace.  I am both bed ridden and wheelchair bound pending further occupational and rehabilitative therapy.  At this point, the doctors and I are trying to do a limb salvage on the right leg.  I am a candidate for surgical reconstruction of the right knee and leg.  Doctors have stated since my leg injuries are extensive and catastrophic, they feel that aqua hydro therapy would be more beneficial than traditional land based rehab and therapy sessions.  But in order to do so, I need a microprocessor waterproof prosthetic knee.  This will assist in strengthening my right leg in the best way possible.  Unfortunately, my insurance will not cover my expense for the Ottobock Genium Titanium 3 waterproof prosthetic prosthesis.  In conclusion, I have made many contributions to our society and am determined to reclaim my life as a police officer again.  I have embraced my new sense of normalcy and have much more to give back once I am ambulating to the best of my ability.  In order to keep that hope of reclaiming my life in law enforcement, full cooperation in obtaining the necessary medical equipment is greatly needed and appreciated.
