I am the Chief SRO of WMCSD School Resource Officers and from Winona MS, located in Montgomery County. I’m working on a project and seeking support for it. Charles Busby Smith, deputy for Montgomery County Sherrif office was killed in the line of duty in January 12, 1981. He was the 2nd known officer killed in line of duty from our county or any local agencies in the county. The first was William Lee Kelly, killed January 2, 1960. The many intervening years make it no less important to honor their loss, in fact it makes the matter that much more urgent. There is no marker or memorial of their loss in our county. I’m working to have a monument placed that will forever honor their sacrifice. It would be for any future officer or first responders from our county killed in the line of duty (God forbid). It will give their name, date of loss, and agency. I hope to have a ceremony honoring the fallen heroes and their families when the monument is ready. This has been my dream for many years. I know there are lots of worthy projects and causes but I offer this up for your consideration. Thank you.  All money will be spent on the memorial.
