Fundraising tips

Four ways to build a successful fundraiser.

Whether it's for yourself or someone you love, these simple steps help your community show up.

1

Tell your story

From the title and description to the photos and videos, the story behind your fundraiser is what moves people to give. Explain who the fundraiser is for, what happened and how the money will help.

  • Write a clear, personal description. A few honest paragraphs go a long way.
  • Add real photos, and a short video if you can.
  • Say exactly how the funds will be used.

2

Set your goal thoughtfully

Choose an amount that covers the real need. A realistic goal builds momentum, and you can update it at any time. Your fundraiser doesn't need to reach its goal to get funded.

  • Start with what's needed most right now.
  • Raise the goal as you hit milestones.
  • The first days matter most, so share early.

3

Post updates often

Updates keep your supporters connected and remind them why they gave. No update is too small: a thank-you, a milestone, or news about the person you're helping.

  • Thank donors publicly.
  • Share progress and milestones.
  • Let people know how they can still help.

4

Share, share, share

Sharing is the biggest difference between fundraisers that succeed and those that don't. Ask friends, family, coworkers and your department or union to share it with their networks too.

  • Share by text, email and social media.
  • Ask a few people to be ambassadors for your cause.
  • Keep sharing after the first day, not just at launch.
