About Our Campaign
My name is Steve, asking for help is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. I have always strived to be self-reliant, but right now, my family is facing a crisis, and I am running out of options. I am reaching out to our community because this isn't just about me—it's about the people and companions I love more than anything in this world.
Our family consists of four: myself, my fiancé, and our two beloved dogs, Thor and Nymeria.. Both my fiancé and I are proud military veterans. She served in the U.S. Navy, and I served in the U.S. Army through two combat operations, leaving me with a 30% service-connected disability. Despite our service, life hit us with a series of overwhelming challenges. Through no fault of our own, we experienced homelessness, bouncing between low-cost hotel rooms and living out of our vehicle.
How Everything Unraveled
In early September, our vehicle began experiencing mechanical issues. I spent every spare moment between work shifts in a parking lot trying to repair it myself so my family could have a reliable lifeline. A local security team gave me permission to park it there temporarily, but despite that assurance, a private towing company impounded our vehicle.
Without savings to pay the steep impound fees, we were forced to rely on rideshare services like Uber and Lyft just so I could keep working. Because of my schedule as a Flex Security Officer—which often required two separate shifts a day—rideshare costs skyrocketed to $130–$140 (4 Ride requests ) daily. Between those costs, essential bills, and food, we were completely drained.
Tragically, on September 18, 2026, the company I had dedicated over 8 years of my life to terminated my employment. Because my vehicle was impounded and eventually repossessed, I no longer had reliable transportation to cover distant site assignments they had scheduled me to work, despite contacting them to ask for shifts that I could successfully get to, versus shifts that rideshares don't travel too. Losing a job of eight years overnight was a crushing blow.
A Spark of Hope
Through all of this hardship, an incredible act of kindness gave us a second chance. We found a small, "handyman special" trailer for $800. The owner generously allowed us to keep it in her driveway next door to her residence, gave us access to water and electricity, and even donated some household essentials to help us get by. Her kindness has provided us a safe, temporary roof over our heads while we work to fix up the trailer.
Why We Need Your Help
Neither my fiancé nor I have family or friends we can turn to for support. We are completely on our own, trying to rebuild our lives from scratch after losing our primary vehicle, our steady income, and our stability in a matter of weeks.
We are actively applying for new jobs, working with veteran support organizations, and doing everything within our power to get back on our feet, but we urgently need a bridge to help us survive this transition.
How Funds Will Be Used
Your generous support will go directly toward:
Transportation Solutions: Securing a reliable, low-cost used vehicle or covering temporary transport so we can attend job interviews and return to work.
Basic Living Expenses: Keeping food on the table for us and our dogs, paying for essential utilities, and maintaining our phone service for job applications.
Trailer Repair & Winterization: Purchasing basic materials to fix up and weather-proof our trailer so my family stays safe and warm.
How You Can Help
If you are able to donate, even a small amount makes an enormous difference to us. If you aren't in a position to give financially, we understand that a lot of people are struggling, and just sharing this page with your network would mean the world to our family.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story, honoring our service, and helping us find our way back to stability.
Sincerely,
Steve Spann & Brittany Wright
