My name is Lilia, I work for North Metro fire rescue in Brookfield, Colorado. In February 2026, we found out that my always healthy husband all of a sudden had cancer. It was duodenal adenocarcinoma. He had a tumor in his duodenum that had blocked his stomach from his intestines and not allowing any food to go through. Without a Whipple procedure, he would eventually starve to death. After about 45 pounds of loss and three weeks in the hospital on TPN nutrition, he was able to get that life-saving surgery. He was able to recover from the intense open surgery for a couple of months and has since started chemotherapy. The cancer had spread it to some of his lymph nodes. Therefore they needed to do 12 sessions of something called Folfox. 5FU. Matt , who had never been sick before didn't even have insurance. He thought he didn't need it. He thought everything was great. He has been unable to work due to the severity of the symptoms that come with that type of chemotherapy. He has been out of work since February 13, which is the day that he was admitted to the hospital. we were there for 34 days,. I literally lived there with him, drove an hour to and from work a couple of days a week and worked from the hospital on my laptop, the rest of the time sometimes through the night. My income alone is unable to sustain all of our bills rent utilities car payment insurance. It has been a very difficult struggle these last few months. Matts chemo runs through November. We are hoping that he can go back to work in January healthy and strong  and hopefully be able to go back to the life we once had before this. This was supposed to be the year. We bought a home together. We have been married four years. This was also supposed to be the year. We went on our honeymoon because we pushed it back wanting to be homeowners first before spending anyone on something like that., A little did we know that things were going to change so drastically.. We had a GoFundMe that was able to help us cover a few more months of necessities medication groceries and bills, but that is about to run out  this month. If you could please share this we would truly appreciate it. in a perfect world, I would love to raise enough money to pay off our medical debt as well, but it is so substantial that I don't think that would be possible. The surgery alone was over 200,000 and that's not including all the chemotherapy and the 34 days that he was in the hospital on TPN. He was also on TPN for a month after going home. As for now we're just trying to stay afloat to be able to pay for gasoline to go to, and from treatment  which are 3 to 4 days a week about an hour drive each way. I want to be able to maintain our car payment in our car insurance along with our rent and our utilities etc. if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have. thank you for taking the time to read this and for your kindness and support.
