Each year, hundreds of thousands of people around the world are lost to overdoses. Others survive but suffer permanent injury, with devastating impacts to their families and friends. Our community is not immune. It could easily happen to someone you love, or you may already be affected.
For too long, the overdose crisis has been hidden in the shadows, shamed by stigma. International Overdose Awareness Day provides us with an opportunity to talk about and prevent overdose in our local communities. It is the world’s annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died, and acknowledge the grief of family and friends left behind. International Overdose Awareness Day aims to educate our communities about drugs by sharing real facts about drugs and what to do when you see someone experiencing an overdose.
To show our support, The Christopher Basmas Memorial Foundation (CBF) will host its first raffle to raise funds for International Overdose Awareness Day. CBF was established with the goal of connecting communities to education and resources to encourage a better understanding of the profound importance of promoting a healthy mindset amongst our adolescent population. Instilling simple, yet critical fundamentals at an early stage has consistently proven to lower rates of prescription drug abuse, and preventable overdose related deaths amongst our most vulnerable. In addition to educational grants, CBF is set forth to help limited income families offset fees for youth athletic activities.
Please help support our efforts with at least a $5 donation. For non-monetary donations please contact our foundation directly: [email protected]
