Really in a bind and need some help

I lost my job due to medical reasons in October, and got behind on both my car payments. In mid January, I was able to secure work again, and I’ve been working ever since making payments towards my vehicles and small additional payments well catching up on all the other bills I was late on. Yesterday my wife’s car was picked up for repossession and told if we can come up with the complete back owed for hers and mine they would cancel the repossession and would do a loan modification to start everything over again. I am extremely embarrassed that this happened and have no other options. My credit isn’t the greatest so I haven’t been able to get a loan. I don’t know what else to do. Thank you.
