WHAT IS PTSD911?
PTSD911 is a documentary film that explores the struggle of emergency first responders who battle the demons of post- traumatic stress but are often afraid of the very real threat of losing their job if they ask for help.
SYNOPSIS: The film focuses on first responders from law enforcement, fire, EMS, and dispatch agencies who are struggling to keep their jobs, their sanity, health and even personal relationships after traumatic incidents. PTSD911 follows the progress of a veteran police officer who reaches out for help but is ostracized by fellow officers and by her police department leaders. The officer provides full access to her life and has invited the filmmakers to follow her as she attends a five day retreat for first responders. The traumas this officer and first responders like her see and experience goes home with them at the end of the shift impacting their families and relationships as well. Many cannot shake the sights, sounds, and smells from their memory and to cope often turn to self-destructive habits and increasingly, sadly, suicide.
The film will provide solutions to this issue and will show case studies of agencies who are working to make things better for their members!
GOALS FOR THE DOCUMENTARY:
Raise awareness.
Help smash the stigma of asking for help.
Inspire change in agencies.

I truly support that you are bringing awareness to the plight of first responders but, yet again, you are leaving out one of the most affected job classes. I am speaking about Corrections Professionals, those who work within the often forgotten prisons across the US. According to Spinaris, Denhof, and Kellaway (2012), the rate of PTSD within this group is around 34%. Why does no one value the work these folks are putting in on a daily basis. Staff who work in this field suffer more trauma than many other first responders as we only work with those who have already committed violent crimes. We are exposed to multiple traumatic incidents on a regular basis. Please consider us in your work and help us bring awareness to our plight.
