On January 17, 2026, Baker County Deputy Nate Fisher’s life changed in an instant. While responding to a call, Deputy Fisher was shot in the line of duty. While his ballistic vest stopped two rounds, a third struck him, leaving a bullet lodged in a location that has turned his recovery into a life-or-death gamble.

The Medical Crisis

The round is currently settled in the subclavian artery and vein area. This is a high-stakes "red zone" where major blood vessels and nerves meet. Because of the extreme risk of a fatal rupture, Nate was turned away by multiple surgeons who deemed the procedure too dangerous to attempt.

There is finally hope. A specialized cardiothoracic surgeon has stepped forward and accepted Nate’s case. He is now preparing for this high-risk, life-saving surgery to remove the round before it moves further.

A Family Under Siege

Nate isn’t just a Deputy; he is a Navy veteran and a father of seven—including an 11-month-old baby. In the midst of the fight of his life, his family was hit with another devastating blow.

Recently, the Fishers discovered that their newly purchased home was structurally unsafe. As they navigate a complex legal battle to hold the responsible parties accountable, the home required immediate, massive repairs to keep the roof over their children's heads.

To save their home, Nate and his wife were forced to drain their entire life savings and borrow money to cover the $75,000 in emergency remediation costs. They have given everything they have just to ensure their children have a safe place to sleep. Now, with Nate facing a critical surgery and a long road of recovery, the financial well has run dry.

How you can help

Nate has spent 15 years protecting his community and his country. Now, he needs us to protect his family. We are raising funds to help the Fishers breathe again. Your donations will go directly toward:

  • Critical Medical Expenses: Costs associated with his specialized cardiothoracic surgery and post-operative care.
  • Recovery Support: Helping the family stay afloat while Nate is unable to work.
  • Debt Relief: Assisting with the $75,000 burden incurred to fix their unsafe home so they can focus on Nate's recovery.

Deputy Fisher fought to come home to his family on January 17th. Let’s make sure he has a home—and a future—to come back to.

If you cannot give, please share this story and keep Nate, his surgeon, and his family in your prayers.
