Blue_Wives_Matter offers emotional and financial support to the surviving spouses and fiancees and their children, regardless of cause of death. This means we do not turn anyone away. We accept LODD, suicide, off-duty, duty-related, cancer, COVID, cardiac, accidental, retired, academy-related etc. into our support group. Since our inception in the fall of 2017 we have helped over 150 fallen officers and first responder families and our online support group includes over 116 members of surviving spouses ready to support each other in their grief journeys.
Blue_Wives_Matter offers several programs for both the surviving spouses and fiancees as well as the children that we need help with funding. One of our most popular is our Patches of Honor program where we mail out law enforcement patches to the children of fallen LEO's and FF's every month, personalized to each child as a way to remind them that they, nor their fallen parent, has been forgotten, which is a huge concern for the children.
Another program we offer is free mental health care for our members and their children. We are working with Dr. Nicki Pike PhD, MSW, LCSW, Dr, Todd Langus PsyD and retired Police Sergeant as well as retired Police Captain Rob Sweaza, MSW, MA. We offer free mental health care via Zoom, FaceTime, in-person and over the phone counseling to both our members and first responders in need.
We also would like to offer scholarships to our surviving spouses and fiancees as well as our graduating seniors who are not eligible for LODD benefit scholarships elsewhere. Many of the children who have lost their fallen parents to causes like accidents or cancer are not eligible for LODD college scholarships.
