Catastrophic Loss

Created May 13th, 2026

On May 9, retired Sgt. Joe Riedy and his wife, Julianne, experienced a devastating tragedy when a fire tore through their home, destroying the residence and claiming nearly all of their personal belongings. More than a dozen fire departments responded to battle the blaze, the fire ultimately decimated the home, leaving Joe and Julianne with an unimaginable loss.

Thankfully, Joe, Julianne, and their beloved dog were able to escape safely without injury, though they are now facing the overwhelming emotional and financial challenges that come with losing almost everything they own. The couple is currently staying in temporary housing as they begin the long process of recovery.

In a matter of moments, they lost not only their home, but also many of the everyday necessities and other essential belongings were completely destroyed in the fire.

Joe Riedy is a retired sergeant from the Bethlehem Police Department, where he dedicated many years of his life to serving and protecting the residents of the City of Bethlehem. Even in retirement, Sgt. Riedy has remained committed to public service and continues to support and serve his local community in Walnutport. Throughout his career and beyond, Joe has been someone others could rely on in times of need. Now, during his time of need, they need the support and compassion of their friends and the community they have given so much to over the years.

To help ease the burden during this difficult transition, a “Fund the First” crowdfunding campaign has been established to assist the family with immediate necessities and recovery expenses. Donations will help provide basic essentials, temporary living support, and other critical needs as they work toward rebuilding their home and restoring a sense of normalcy.

Any contribution, no matter the amount, would be appreciated and will make a  difference for Joe and Julianne during this time. If you are unable to donate, sharing their story and keeping the family in your thoughts is equally appreciated.

Please consider supporting the Riedy family as they deal with this loss. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, prayers, and support.
