Officer Jim Harris has been a dedicated member of the McHenry Police Department and Firefighter/Paramedic at the McHenry Township Fire Protection District for over 25 years. Diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in October 2023, Jim's journey has taken a devastating turn as a tumor has been found in his brain. Despite his ongoing battle with this illness, Jim continues to work full time while undergoing extensive treatments including 37 rounds of radiation and critical surgeries. Together with his wife Erin, they face overwhelming expenses and travel costs, all while Erin provides unwavering support as Jim's primary caregiver, and she is currently out of benefit time.
Jim is not only a devoted public servant but also a loving father to Jenna (a current senior in high school with plans to attend St. Norbert College in the fall), Andrew (a current 8th grader and Retinoblastoma cancer survivor), and bonus dad to Carter (currently at basic training for the US Coast Guard).
